Woof! He is Better!

I feel like I live at the veterinarian! Pig and I have been going about every three days now for a bandage change in hopes of saving his leg and guess what?  I think we did it!

I think he is out of the woods as far as losing his leg goes and he may not even need his toe bone amputated!  The vet said there is granulation tissue on half the toe bone!

Here is the weird thing though, I have been smelling this awful smell in my house for about the last week and it seemed to me it was coming from the bathroom.  I have been cleaning the heck out of that bathroom.

So today I am at the vets and I threw on the pants I wore yesterday and left my PJ top on because I was so sleepy (worked til 5am) .  So we are sitting in the treatment room and I smell the death funk.  I knew it had to be me so I am sniffing my shirt, shoes, socks, hands, hair……Nothing.

I sniff the dog’s fur, bury my face in and breath and he smells great.  But I still smell the death funk and then he hit me in the face with his bandaged paw, looking for some love and it about bowled me over!  The putrid stink has been his paw!  OMG and it is NORMAL!

So anyway the news is all good!

He is certainly NOT very photogenic a small black ball!

I took Pig back tot he vet for a bandage change and the vet said it would appear that “granular” healing is taking place which is good since we are trying to save his leg,but since blood was unable to get6 to his “toes” due to swelling and infection, he has been losing toes at bandage change times(I am not in the room for this).

I go back to the veterinarian Friday for a bandage change(we go every three days) and also with him having not eaten after midnight because his middle toe bone is sticking out and if the healing is not also covering that bone on Friday they are going to snip off the bone and he has to be under anesthesia.

So Friday is a big day in what has become a very long healing process and one that will take a long time even after this according to the vet but Piggalis is worth it.
